Artist and Community Benefits

Sure there are financial benefits to the school when participating in a FundraiserGreetings Program. But there are far further reaching benefits to our children and the community as a whole with this kind of fundraising program.

Art creation is more than just a way to fundraise. Art and creativity benefits brain developement and other important skills.

Art provides children freedom to create, imagine and explore. As we progress in the 21st Centrury the better able our children are at 'thinking outside the box' the more likely their success in the world.

The transition from concrete to abstract thinking is aided by experience in art. It focuses on right brain activity where there is rarely a right and wrong or solution based result. Creating art also facilitates the development of the hand with concentration, coordination and independence.

Participation in fundraisers of this kind builds self worth, self value and self esteem. Having published work is often a source of pride for an artist. It is widely believed that children with duties, chores or assignments/tasks that are seen as truly of value feel better about themselves. They become self reliant and function better in society as adults. Duties or tasks that are 'truly of value' are items that have purpose and meaning to their community, be it school, family or otherwise. Participation in a fundraiser where their work is needed, their talents are valued and their art results in a financial gain to their community is such a task.

Art also meets the fundamental needs for communication, community and socialization. Even the youngest children can communicate through art. And in a world where social networking and texting has become the norm it is important to remember and maintain skills and traditions for clear communication.

The exchange of greeting cards is one of the oldest traditions shared in America.

Communicating with family and friends maintains writing skills, creates memories and improves relationships with those not willing or able to speak or write in abbreviations or with poor grammer. Such skills transcend school and improve socialization throughout life.
